Charlie Walmsley-Ryde is a 16-year-old British kart racing driver based in Yorkshire. He has been racing karts since the age of 8, and after some time away during the pandemic, returned in 2022, enjoying a successful campaign in the British Indoor Karting Championships (BIKC) where he was a finalist.
In late 2022, Charlie ventured into competitive outdoor karting. He entered his first winter championship with Total Karting Zero (now Global Karting League UK) as a junior driver where he would eventually finish 4th after 5 rounds.
In January 2023, he was picked up by the Vertice Racing Team and represented them in several championships throughout the year. He raced in 4 Championships, several, one-off races and endurance events, as well as testing in Senior Rotax and HAASE Prokarts. Being his rookie outdoor season, it was a steep learning curve, driving in some challenging conditions against some of the best drivers in the country.
Charlie enjoyed a good amount of success in 2023, 4th place in TKZ, Vice-Champion in Daytona TNL, 17th in his rookie Club100 season competing against 116 entrants and Rookie winner of the Buckmore 12hr Endurance Race.
In 2024, Charlie is racing in 3 Championships - Club100 Junior Lightweight, Club100 Junior Lightweight Experience & Tillotson T4 Series UK.
In the future, Charlie aspires to progress in open-wheel single-seater motorsport, travelling up through the ranks from juniors to seniors in Club100 and racing his own owner/driver kart, before ultimately getting into an open-wheel car series like GB4.
